Kikuma Station opened on 21 June 1925 as the terminus of the then Sanyo Line when it was extended westwards from Ōnishi. It became a through station on 28 March 1926 when the line was further extended to Iyo-Hōjō. Operated initially by Japanese Government Railways and later by Japanese National Railways, the station passed to JR Shikoku at the 1 April 1987 privatisation. Today only Yosan Line locals between Iyo-Saijō and Matsuyama call here; longer-distance services require connections elsewhere. The station retains two staggered opposed side platforms with the main building serving as a waiting room on platform 1, and a siding off line 1 used mainly by track-maintenance equipment.
