• JR Sanyō Main Line: Mihara

Itozaki Station opened on 20 July 1892 as the terminus of the San'yō Railway when the line was extended from Onomichi; at that time it carried the name Mihara Station. When the line was extended to Hiroshima on 10 June 1894 the name was transferred to a new station closer to central Mihara and the original terminus was renamed Itozaki. Nationalisation of the San'yō Railway followed in December 1906, and the 1909 line-naming reform placed the station on the San'yō Main Line. From the early 20th century until the 1970s, Itozaki was an important crew-change point with the adjacent Itozaki locomotive depot; the station passed to JR West and JR Freight at the JNR privatisation of 1 April 1987.

Among the trains that continued to call at Itozaki even after the 1975 Shinkansen extension was the southbound Asakaze sleeper, which stopped here until 2002 despite a 03:35 departure time on its 1980 schedule.
