Location

History

Shōgyō-Kōkō-mae opened in 1950 on the Kumamoto City tram Kengun Line; it is stop 20, served by both A- and B-system trams. The Kumamoto Prefectural Kumamoto Commercial High School (Shōgyō-Kōkō) is right in front of the stop. In 2023 the Kengun-machi-bound platform was moved several dozen metres further along the line — past the school gate — to relieve the crowding that occurred whenever the high school was dismissed early en masse (for example, during typhoon approaches), when students could not all fit on the platform and had to queue in the strip between the tracks and the roadway.

Notes

The stop's two side platforms are staggered rather than set directly opposite one another, and both are reached by a surface crosswalk; there is no access from a pedestrian overpass.
