• JR Sanyō Main Line: Tenjingawa ⇄ Kaitaichi

Mukainada Station opened on 1 August 1920 on the JGR Sanyō Main Line between Kaitaichi and Hiroshima. Freight ended on 1 September 1962. In May 1973 the station joined the Hiroshima City special-fare zone, and on 1 April 1987 it passed to JR West. A north exit and additional gateline opened on 26 March 2011. The four-track layout (with two through tracks for freight) is being rebuilt as an elevated four-track station under the Hiroshima Eastern Sector Continuous Elevation Project; cutover, originally targeted earlier, was rescheduled in June 2025 to spring 2033.

The station is the closest rail access to Mazda's global headquarters and museum, generating heavy commuter peaks among Mazda employees.
