Iyo-Tomita Station opened on 11 February 1924 as an intermediate stop when the then Sanyo Line of Japanese Government Railways was extended westwards from Iyo-Sakurai to Imabari. Freight and parcel handling ended on 8 November 1971, after which the station became unstaffed and operated under a kan'i itaku ticket-sales agreement with a local shop. Control passed to JR Shikoku at the 1 April 1987 privatisation of Japanese National Railways. The station has two opposed side platforms with track 2 designated as the main running line at 100 km/h; only Yosan Line locals between Iyo-Saijō and Matsuyama stop here. In January 2024 commemorative signage was installed for the line's centenary.
