History
Gofukumachi tram stop opened on 1 August 1924. It belongs to the Kumamoto City Transportation Bureau, is numbered 5 and is served by the A route on the Trunk Line. The stop is in Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture. Its name comes from the surrounding district, a name said to derive from the Edo-period gathering of kimono-fabric merchants there. Two opposed side platforms serve two tracks, but the platform for each direction stands apart from the other, and passengers reach them across a pedestrian crossing without traffic signals. The stop sits at the heart of a district in the old part of the city, an area that is now residential and home to wholesalers.
Notes
A porcelain-enamel station-name sign beside one of the platforms is the only one still surviving on the Kumamoto City Tram.
