Yue Station opened on 24 March 1934 when Japanese Government Railways extended the Ariake West Line north from Isahaya as part of a coastal alternative to the Nagasaki Main Line. A few months later the track linked up to Tara, and on 1 December 1934 the whole stretch was incorporated into the Nagasaki Main Line. The Shimabara Railway had previously used the same name nearby, so its station was renamed Shimatetsu-Yue when JGR opened this one. Goods service ended in 1972, the station became unstaffed in 1985, and on 1 April 1987 the privatisation of Japanese National Railways transferred operation to JR Kyushu. The line through the station was de-electrified on 23 September 2022.

Yamato Transport once ran a courier branch from inside the station's former ticket office, which also briefly sold rail tickets before relocating to a building nearby.
