History
Watanabe-dōri Station opened on 3 February 2005 on the Fukuoka City Subway Nanakuma Line, having been designed between 1999 and 2000 and built from March 2003 to July 2004. It has been a business-outsourced station since opening, under Tenjin-Minami's managed area, with JR Kyushu Service Support handling day-to-day operations. The station sits beneath Watanabe-dōri (Watanabe Avenue, Fukuoka Prefectural Route 602) and has a single island platform serving two tracks; the station code is N15.
Notes
The street and station are named for the entrepreneur Yohachirō Watanabe, who in 1911 spearheaded the construction of the original Fukuoka tram line along the avenue; the subway station's symbol depicts that streetcar.
