Washizu Station opened on 1 September 1888 as a general station when the Tōkaidō Main Line's Hamamatsu–Ōbu section was completed. Freight service was discontinued on 26 April 1971, and baggage handling ended on 1 November 1986. The line was transferred to Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central) at JNR's privatisation on 1 April 1987, and TOICA service began on 1 March 2008. Station number CA39 was assigned in March 2018. The station is located in Kosai, Shizuoka Prefecture.

A point on the line 1.6 km west of the station is the exact midpoint (278.2 km) of the Tōkaidō Main Line between Tokyo and Osaka (total 556.4 km).
