History

Wadaura Station opened on 20 December 1922. Freight handling ended on 1 October 1962, and the station went unstaffed on 1 March 1985. JR East took the station over on 1 April 1987, when Japanese National Railways was privatised. A rebuilt, whale-shaped station building was completed on 22 December 1995, and in 2000 it was chosen as one of the Kanto region’s 100 Selected Stations, a whale-themed hometown landmark for a town with a whaling base. Suica IC cards became usable on 14 March 2009. On 1 April 2017 the city of Minamiboso ended its contract to sell tickets, and the station again became unstaffed all day. It stands in Minamiboso, Chiba Prefecture, on the JR East Uchibo Line.

Notes

Reckoned from Soga by way of the Sotobo Line, the station is 102.1 km away instead of the 106.8 km by way of the Uchibo Line, which puts it roughly midway around the outer circuit of the two lines.
