History

Umeda Station is on the Osaka Metro Midosuji Line. A temporary station opened on 20 May 1933, when Japan's first municipally run subway began service between Umeda and Shinsaibashi, and the permanent station replaced it on 6 October 1935. The line's extension to Shin-Osaka on 24 September 1964 made Umeda an intermediate station. A rebuild begun in March 1988 gave Nakamozu-bound trains a new platform in a tunnel once prepared for the Tanimachi Line and then abandoned. The new platform opened on 5 November 1989, bringing the platform width to 24.5 m. Osaka Metro took over the station on 1 April 2018, when the city's transportation bureau was privatised. Its station number is M16. It is in Kita Ward, Osaka.

Notes

Although service began with single-car trains, the station's island platform was built with an effective length of 189 m and a width of 9.1 m, enough for ten cars of the size then in use.
