Tsuga began life as a signal post (Tsuga Shingōsho) on the Japanese Government Railways Sōbu Main Line, opening on 1 November 1912 between Chiba and Yotsukaidō. It was reclassified as a signal station in 1922 and a temporary stop in 1965, then upgraded to a full passenger station on 28 March 1968 — the same day electric trains began running through to Narita. Sōbu rapid services started calling here in 1978. With privatisation on 1 April 1987 it joined JR East, and the Chiba Urban Monorail Line 2 platforms opened above the JR tracks on 28 March 1988. An elevated overbridge concourse and step-free access followed in 2002.

The 1912 date on Wikidata refers to a signal post; Tsuga did not handle passengers until 28 March 1968, when electrification opened the line to Narita.
