History
Tera-machi is a tram stop on the Yokogawa Line of Hiroshima Electric Railway (Hiroden), in Naka-ku, Hiroshima. It opened as Nishinokoji on 1 November 1917 with the line, named for a narrow lane the tracks crossed. The line ran on a private right-of-way behind roadside temples, so the stop was later renamed Tera-machi-ura. In 1938 the line became street-running as a planned city road was built. The atomic bombing on 6 August 1945 halted service, and the section through the stop was restored on 26 December 1945. It has been Tera-machi since 1 April 1965. Its station number is Y01, replacing Y2 on 3 August 2025. Two platforms sit diagonally apart across the tracks; routes 7 and 8 stop here.
Notes
The narrow lane that gave the stop its first name has since become part of a main street of Hiroshima.
