Takiyama Station opened on 13 April 1913 as a stop on what is now the Nose Electric Railway Myōken Line, in present-day Kawanishi, Hyōgo. Originally a single-track, single-platform halt, the station was rebuilt on 30 November 1967 when the line was double-tracked. In October 1982 the curved platform was eased and lengthened to accommodate the railway's newly introduced 1500-series cars. The station today has two opposed side platforms — both notably curved, leaving an unusually wide gap to the train — connected by an underground passage. It is unstaffed; effective platform length is six cars but only four-car trains presently stop.

Takiyama's platforms curve sharply enough that the resulting gap between train and platform edge is the most pronounced anywhere on the Nose Electric Railway network.
