History
Shiritsubyoin-mae is a tram stop on the Toso Line in Kagoshima, run by the Kagoshima City Transportation Bureau and served by Route 2. The city’s transport section, now that bureau, opened it on 1 June 1952 under a different name. Following the Japan Tobacco and Salt Public Corporation’s conversion into a joint-stock company on 1 April 1985, the stop was renamed on 15 April. The new name came from a nearby Japan Tobacco factory. Because Kagoshima City Hospital moved to the factory site, the stop was renamed on 1 May 2015, taking the present name that another stop, now Kotochugakko-mae (甲東中学校前), had held. At ground level, it has two tracks and two platforms, with no staff or ticket sales.
Notes
The tobacco factory behind the stop’s 1985 name closed in March 2005, yet the name stayed in use until the hospital moved onto the site in May 2015.
