History
Shin-Takatoku Station, numbered TN-53, is on the Tōbu Kinugawa Line in Nikkō, Tochigi Prefecture, operated by Tōbu Railway. The station opened on 1 November 1917 as simply Takatoku Station (高徳駅) and was renamed Shin-Takatoku ("New Takatoku") on 22 October 1929. From 1 March 1924 until 30 June 1959 it also served as the terminus of the 23.5 km Tōbu Yaita Line, which connected to the Tōhoku Main Line at Yaita. Station numbering across the Tōbu network was introduced on 17 March 2012. In 2017 the platform and its passenger shelter were designated a Registered Tangible Cultural Property by the national government.
Notes
The wooden platform shelter and the platform itself were added to Japan's Registered Tangible Cultural Properties in 2017, formally recognising their pre-war origins.
