Shimogōri Station serves the city of Kimitsu in Chiba Prefecture on JR East's Kururi Line, 15.2 km from the line's terminus at Kisarazu. It opened on 20 April 1937 along with Higashi-Yokota and the now-closed Kazusa-Yamamoto stations, the year after the Kururi Line was completed to Kazusa-Kameyama. The section south of Kururi was suspended during World War II in 1944; when service resumed in 1947, Shimogōri and the other lightly used stations were left suspended, and the station was formally closed on 20 January 1947. It was returned to service on 1 July 1956, while neighbouring Kazusa-Yamamoto was abolished that same year. The station passed to JR East on 1 April 1987, and was incorporated into the Tokyo Suburban Area on 14 March 2009.

The single-side platform only fits two cars, so trains of three or more cars use door-cut: passengers may only board or alight from the leading two cars, with doors on the rear cars kept shut.
