History
Shikama Station opened on 19 August 1923 as Shikamamachi Station on the Kobe-Himeji Electric Railway, serving the port town that is now part of Himeji, Hyōgo Prefecture. It was renamed Dentetsu Shikama Station in January 1924, and the Aboshi branch line began operations from here on 15 October 1940. The station took its present name on 7 April 1991, the same date that direct through service from the Aboshi Line to the Main Line was discontinued. A new northern entrance opened on 27 March 2022. The station is a junction at 50.9 kilometres from the Main Line terminus at Nishidai and the starting point of the 5.6-kilometre Aboshi Line.
