Saginomiya (Tokyo)

Saginomiya Station opened on 16 April 1927 on what is now the Seibu Shinjuku Line in Nakano Ward, Tokyo — the westernmost stop in the ward. On 6 October 1965 a dedicated turn-back centre track was extended toward Hon-Kawagoe and the layout was reshaped into two island platforms serving three tracks. A bridge-style station building was completed on 1 November 1979 and a north-side station building opened on 11 May 1991. Automatic ticket gates began service on 4 November 1992, and the up main and down passing tracks were swapped on 7 February 2013. Station numbering assigned SS09 in fiscal 2012.

On 14 and 15 March 2011, in response to TEPCO rolling blackouts ordered after the Tōhoku earthquake, Saginomiya was used for short-turn services from Seibu-Shinjuku — a rare instance of the station being used for an unscheduled scheduled turnback.
