Ōzuka Station (Hiroshima) opened on 20 August 1994 with the Hiroshima Rapid Transit Astram Line. It was kept as a stop when express services were introduced on 20 March 1999, became a commission-operated stop in 2000, and reverted to all-stops service when the express category was discontinued on 20 March 2004. PASPY service began on 8 August 2009, and in 2015 the platform display boards and station announcements were updated to match those at the new Shin-Hakushima Station.

Ōzuka serves as the gateway to Saeda-Shinto ("West Wind New Town"), a new town developed as part of north-western Hiroshima's expansion, and carries the sub-name "Ichidaigaku-guchi" (City University entrance). The article attributes a sharp drop in 2001 ridership to Hiroshima Electric Railway opening a competing bus service that year between the West Wind New Town and Hiroshima Bus Centre via the Hiroshima Expressway Route 4.
