• Meitetsu Seto Line: Sangō (Aichi) ⇄ Asahi-mae

Owari Asahi Station opened on 2 April 1905 as Arai Station on the privately operated Seto Electric Railway. It was renamed Asahi-Arai Station on 1 April 1922, and was absorbed into the Meitetsu group on 1 September 1939. Following the creation of Owariasahi City on 1 December 1970, the station was renamed to its present name on 1 November 1971. The station moved roughly 100 metres east to its current site and was rebuilt as an elevated station on 3 July 1994, with a turnback siding added at the same time. It was promoted to an express stop in 1995, Manaca IC ticketing began on 11 February 2011, and the adjacent Owari-Asahi Rail Yard opened on 30 June 2007 to replace the ageing Kitayama depot.

Although the station carries the city's name, neighbouring Sangō Station handles more passengers each day; Owari Asahi's busiest function is hosting the Seto Line's only depot, which replaced the cramped Kitayama yard in 2007.
