History

A school merger lies behind Oryuzako Station. In April 1966, a municipal junior high school in another district of Miyazaki was folded into Aoshima Junior High School, and the city board of education pledged to ask Japanese National Railways (JNR) for a new station, giving pupils from that district a way to reach the school. The pledge was kept: the station opened on the Nichinan Line on 1 December 1966, with 4 daily round trips at first. JNR's privatization on 1 April 1987 made it a JR Kyushu station, and on 1 April 2022 it moved from the Kagoshima Branch to the newly formed Miyazaki Branch. It is in Miyazaki City, Miyazaki Prefecture, and only local trains stop there.

Notes

When the station was established, Miyazaki City paid the 3,300,000 yen cost of constructing the station building, along with other expenses such as buying the site.
