Ojiya Station opened on 1920-11-01, originally as Higashi-Ojiya Station (East Ojiya), to distinguish it from the existing Ojiya Station on the privately-owned Uonuma Railway. After the Uonuma Railway's station was renamed Nishi-Ojiya (West Ojiya) in July 1932, the JNR station took on the simple name Ojiya on 1932-08-01. JR East absorbed the station at privatisation on 1987-04-01. The station sits 149.4 kilometres along the Jōetsu Line from Takasaki and consists of one side platform and one island platform connected by a footbridge, although one face of the island platform is no longer in use. The station retains a staffed Midori no Madoguchi.
