History
The station first opened on 1 March 1938 as Sagamihara Station, set up by the Odakyū Odawara Line to serve newly established army facilities — including the Temporary Tokyo Third Army Hospital, which opened on the same date — in what had until then been largely undeveloped grazing land. It was renamed Odakyu-Sagamihara Station on 5 April 1941. Postwar housing developments such as the 1958 Tsurugaoka and 1959 Kamitsuruma public estates accelerated growth around the station. Station numbering OH29 was introduced on the line in January 2014.
