History
Nirehara Station opened on 27 November 1930 on the Takayama Main Line, which runs north from Gifu to Toyama. It sits 196.2 kilometres from the line's southern end at Gifu and 7.0 kilometres north of Inotani, the boundary between the JR West and JR East halves of the line. The station was transferred to JR West with the 1 April 1987 privatisation of Japanese National Railways. Its single side platform sits atop an embankment, with the station building at a lower level, and the stop has long been unstaffed.
