Location
History
Nippombashi Station opened on 6 December 1969, when the Sakaisuji Line's Tenjimbashisuji-rokuchome to Dobutsuen-mae section began operating on the then Osaka Municipal Subway. It became a transfer point on 11 March 1970 as the Sennichimae Line's Sakuragawa to Tanimachi-kyuchome extension opened; four days later the separately run Kintetsu Nippombashi Station opened nearby, connecting to the Kintetsu Namba Line. Underground, the Sakaisuji Line uses two side platforms on the first basement level, while the Sennichimae Line uses one island platform below; screen doors were added in 2014 and 2022. Since the 2018 privatization, Osaka Metro has run the station, serving the Namba Walk arcade, Kuromon Ichiba market, and the National Bunraku Theatre nearby.
Notes
Although part of Osaka's Den Den Town electronics district lies closer to Nippombashi Station, it is treated as nearest to Ebisucho Station, one stop away on the Sakaisuji Line, rather than to Nippombashi itself.
