History
The Kagoshima Electric Tramway set up the Nikenjaya stop on 1 December 1912. On 1 July 1928 the stop was transferred to the Kagoshima City Electric Bureau, now the Kagoshima City Transportation Bureau. It lies in Kagoshima City on the Taniyama Line of the Kagoshima City Tram, and Route 1 is its only service. The stop has two opposed platforms serving two tracks. A level crossing beside it links the platforms, so passengers can cross between them whenever no tram is passing. Both platforms have tram-approach indicators and announcements. Wheelchairs can be used on both, but electric wheelchairs cannot, because the platforms are narrower than the standard requires.
Notes
Because people kept crossing the off-limits tracks of the neighbouring JR Kyushu Ibusuki Makurazaki Line as a shortcut, with frequent accidents near the stop, Kagoshima City held talks with JR Kyushu, and a new pedestrian crossing to the road used by local residents came into use on 18 March 2010.
