Naniwabashi Station opened on 19 October 2008 with the inauguration of the Keihan Electric Railway's Nakanoshima Line. The underground station lies in Nakanoshima 1-chōme, Kita-ku, Osaka, and is named after the nearby Naniwa Bridge — the kanji is rendered in hiragana ('なにわ') to avoid confusion with the better-known Namba (also written 難波) entertainment district. A single island platform serves two tracks on basement level four, with the concourse and ticket gates on basement two; the station's entrances within Nakanoshima Park were designed by architect Tadao Andō, and the building won a Good Design Award and a Mecenat Award in 2009.

Because of its closeness to Kitahama Station, fares between the two are treated as identical and a season ticket valid at one is honored at the other.
