Naka-Meguro Station opened on 28 August 1927 as an elevated Tōyoko Line stop in Meguro, then with two side platforms. To accommodate the new Hibiya Line, a major rebuild widened the structure to two island platforms and added three sidings; the work was completed on 21 July 1964 and through service from the subway began on 22 July, with Hibiya Line through trains running west of Naka-Meguro until 16 March 2013. On 8 March 2000 a Hibiya Line train derailed and collided on a sharp curve just outside the station. The Teito Rapid Transit Authority's platforms passed to Tokyo Metro on 1 April 2004, a south ticket gate opened on 23 December 2012, and Tōyoko Line platform-edge doors entered service on 23 December 2013.

The Daikan-yama end of both platforms is built directly over the Meguro River, whose cherry trees draw heavy spring crowds to the station's south exit.
