Minami-morimachi Station opened on 24 March 1967 as a stop on the Osaka Municipal Subway Tanimachi Line; the Sakaisuji Line platforms were added on 6 December 1969, making it an interchange between the two lines. The station lies in Kita-ku, Osaka, and is part of the network now operated by Osaka Metro. The Tanimachi Line level was originally built with a single island platform, but congestion led to the addition of a second side platform completed on 10 October 1997; since then the side platform has handled northbound services while the northbound face of the island platform has been fenced off.

The original island platform on the Tanimachi Line was so overcrowded that an extra side platform was added in 1997, leaving the old northbound face permanently fenced off.
