History
Minami-Hiragishi Station opened on 16 December 1971 with the inaugural Kita-Nijūyo-Jō-to-Makomanai stretch of the Sapporo Municipal Subway's Namboku Line, originally named Reien-Mae (Cemetery-Front) for its proximity to the municipal Hiragishi cemetery. Reconstruction works on the station building began in June 1984 and completed on 14 December that year. After residents asked for a less downbeat-sounding name, the station was renamed Minami-Hiragishi on 14 October 1994, coinciding with the Tōhō Line's southern extension. Platform-edge doors entered service on 24 January 2013. The station stands on the only above-ground stretch of the Sapporo Municipal Subway, repurposed from the abandoned Jōzankei Railway alignment with shelter-covered elevated tracks.
Notes
Minami-Hiragishi sits on the only above-ground stretch of the Sapporo Municipal Subway, an elevated section built atop the disused Jōzankei Railway alignment and protected from snow by a long shelter.
