History
Minami-Gōchi Station opened on 1 November 1960 as a Japanese National Railways intermediate stop on the then Gannichi Line (岩日線), in what is today the city of Iwakuni, Yamaguchi Prefecture. With the 1 April 1987 JNR privatisation the station was first transferred to JR West, then ceded along with the entire line to the third-sector Nishikigawa Railway on 25 July 1987. The unstaffed surface station lies 8.6 kilometres from the line origin at Kawanishi on the Nishikigawa Seiryū Line and has a single side platform with a roofed waiting area on it.
