Location

History

Matsuyama Station is on JR Shikoku's Yosan Line, in Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture. It opened on 3 April 1927, when the Ministry of Railways extended its San'yo Line, today's Yosan Line, from Iyo-Hojo. Iyo Railway's own Matsuyama Station dated from 1888; after the Ministry demanded a rename, Iyo Railway gave way and renamed it Matsuyama City Station in March 1927. An air raid destroyed the station building on 26 July 1945, and a reinforced-concrete one was completed on 28 September 1953. JR Shikoku announced a viaduct design error on 19 January 2023, delaying the switch to elevated platforms from the end of fiscal 2023 to autumn 2024. The elevated station entered service on 29 September 2024, removing 8 level crossings.

Notes

On 13 October 2013 the station signed a friendship-station agreement with the Taipei station written with the same characters (松山).
