History
Marutamachi Station opened on May 29, 1981 with the inaugural section of the Kyoto Municipal Subway Karasuma Line between Kitaoji and Kyoto stations. It lies beneath the intersection of Karasuma-dori and Marutamachi-dori in Nakagyo-ku and is built around a single island platform with two tracks. PiTaPa IC-card service began on April 1, 2007. The station has both a north and a south concourse, of which the north gate is staffed only at rush hours; both gates are otherwise unstaffed and operate by remote support. Station numbering K07 was introduced as part of the line-wide scheme.
