Location
History
Kuramaguchi Station is an underground station on the Kyoto Municipal Subway Karasuma Line in Kamigyo-ku, Kyoto, operated by the Kyoto Municipal Transportation Bureau. The location was not part of the original Karasuma Line plan filed in 1972, since no major east-west arterial road crossed the line nearby. Local residents petitioned for a stop, and the additional station was formally approved on 29 May 1973. It opened to passengers on 29 May 1981 alongside the rest of the Kitaoji-to-Kyoto segment of the line, and PiTaPa IC card acceptance was added on 1 April 2007. The station carries the number K05.
Notes
Despite its name, the station is roughly 10 kilometres south of the Kurama district, and Karasuma Line announcements specifically warn passengers headed for Kurama not to alight here.
