History

Kubota Station is a junction in the city of Saga, Saga Prefecture, where the Karatsu Line leaves the Nagasaki Main Line. The private Kyushu Railway opened it on 10 October 1896. On 14 December 1903 a section between Kubota and Azamibaru (now Taku) opened, linking the station to the track toward Nishi-Karatsu. The company was nationalized on 1 July 1907, and on 12 October 1909 the two routes here were named the Nagasaki Main Line and the Karatsu Line. The station became unstaffed on 20 January 1985 and passed to JR Kyushu on 1 April 1987. Its building was rebuilt in 2005. It has one side platform and one island platform serving three tracks, linked by a footbridge.

Notes

A stone monument in front of the station marks its opening in October 1896; it was reportedly left lying inside the station grounds until it was moved to its present spot on 13 May 1958.
