Kozawa

Kozawa Station opened on 18 July 1904 when the privately operated Hokkaido Railway extended its track southwards from Ranshima and Shikaribetsu; a further extension on 15 October 1904 reached Utasutsu (now Neppū). After the company was nationalised on 1 July 1907, the station passed to Japanese Government Railways, becoming part of the Hakodate Main Line on 12 October 1909. The branch Iwanai Line ran from here from 1 November 1912 until its closure on 1 July 1985, after which Kozawa became the sole station in the town of Kyōwa. Consigned operation ended on 1 April 1992 and the station has been fully unstaffed since.

The station appeared in the 1970 film Otoko wa Tsurai yo: Bōkyō-hen, and a local rice-cake confectionery called "Tunnel Mochi" — named for the nearby Inaho tunnel — was sold here until production ceased in June 2022.
