History
Kokusaikaikan Station opened on 3 June 1997 as the new northern terminus of the Kyoto Municipal Subway Karasuma Line when the route was extended one stop north from Kitayama. The station's name refers to the adjacent Kyoto International Conference Center, where the Kyoto Protocol was adopted later that year. A bus terminal and large bicycle parking facility opened in front of the station on 13 January 2000, and PiTaPa contactless fares began on 1 April 2007. From April 2010, station name boards were supplemented with advertising signage for the nearby Dōshisha Iwakura Campus. The station is the northernmost subway stop in the Kansai region.
Notes
Kokusaikaikan is the northernmost subway station anywhere in the Kansai region.
