History
Kitagata Station opened on 9 January 1985, the same day the Kitakyushu Monorail began operating. Riders have been able to use the mono SUGOCA IC card there since 1 October 2015. The station is number 07 on the monorail's Kokura Line and stands in Kitagata 3-chome, Kokuraminami Ward, Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture. It is an elevated station with two side platforms serving two tracks. Kitakyushu Urban Expressway Route 1 runs above the station building and shares its viaduct with the monorail, so supporting columns stand inside the station, making its appearance somewhat different from other stations.
Notes
Locals commonly refer to the Kitakyushu driver's license test center as "Kitagata", yet its closest station is actually the next one, Keibajomae; only Kikugaoka-bound trains announce this in their automatic on-board announcements, and a notice posted inside the station says the same.
