Kasumigaseki (Saitama)

The station opened on 27 October 1916 as Matoba Station with the Tōjō Railway's extension from Kawagoe to Sakado-machi. It was renamed Kasumigaseki on 14 January 1930, taking its name from the Kasumigaseki Country Club that had opened nearby in 1929; the original "Matoba" name was later reassigned to a Kawagoe Line station in 1940. A prefecturally operated spur to an Iruma River gravel pit closed in 1957. The platform was rebuilt with an elevated station building on 16 November 2005, and a new north entrance was added on 15 July 2006. Station numbering as TJ-23 began on 17 March 2012, and the March 2023 timetable upgraded the stop to a Rapid Express service stop.

Because it predates the Tokyo Metro Kasumigaseki station by decades, a sign at this station's manned gate reminds visitors that they have not arrived at the Chiyoda government district.
