History

Kanayama Station opened on 3 February 2005 as one of the original stops on the Fukuoka City Subway Nanakuma Line in Jōnan-ku, Fukuoka. Implementation design ran from October 1999 to March 2000, with construction by a Konoike–Daiho joint venture between November 2002 and July 2004. The single-island-platform underground station sits beneath the Nanakuma River, prompting reinforced waterproofing for the mechanical rooms. One of the two surface entrances is shared with a bicycle-parking facility operated by the city's civil-engineering bureau. The station has been outsourced to Nippon Express's Fukuoka branch since opening and is administratively managed from Hashimoto.
