History
Kan-on-machi is a tram stop on the Main Line of Hiroshima Electric Railway (Hiroden), in Nishi-ku, Hiroshima. Its early years are tangled up with those of the neighbouring Temma-cho stop, and sources differ on the timing. Around 1929 the stop was discontinued, and the adjacent Nishi-Tenma-cho stop (today’s Temma-cho) took the name Kan-on-machi in its place. The stop reopened on 11 July 1936, whereupon its neighbour went back to being Nishi-Tenma-cho. Service was suspended in May 1942. In 1964 the stop returned to service as Nishi-Tenma-cho, and on 1 April 1965 it was renamed Kan-on-machi. Its station number is M15; the earlier number M16, first assigned in October 1996, was changed to M15 on 3 August 2025.
Notes
Because the upbound platform lies past a bend in the line, part of it is cut away so that it does not interfere with trams, and the roads around the stop are narrow while the platforms themselves are extremely narrow.
