History
Iwaki-Minato Station opened on 1 December 2001 as a relatively late addition to JR East's Uetsu Main Line, serving the former town of Iwaki in what is now Yurihonjō, Akita Prefecture. The unstaffed station has a single side platform along one bi-directional track and sits 250.2 rail kilometres from the line's southern terminus at Niitsu. Located opposite the roadside station Michi-no-Eki Iwaki along National Route 7, it primarily serves the surrounding rural community of Iwakidōkawa and the former Iwaki town centre.
