Iri Station opened on 25 March 1958 on the Japanese National Railways’ Akō Line in what is now Bizen, Okayama Prefecture. With the breakup of JNR on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR West, the operator under which it continues to operate today. The stop sits 27.7 rail-kilometers from the Akō Line terminus at Aioi and 17.2 rail-kilometers from Banshū-Akō, and is laid out as a single side platform serving one bi-directional track. It is unstaffed, and the area immediately around the station hosts Bizen Municipal Iri Junior High School — the former Okayama Prefectural Bizen Higashi High School — together with Bizen Municipal Iri Elementary School and National Route 250.
