History
Iragawa Station opened on 18 March 1923 with the inauguration of the Rikuu West Line section between Sanze and Atsumi (now Atsumi Onsen). It became a Uetsu Line station on 31 July 1924, and on 20 November 1925 it was incorporated into the Uetsu Main Line. Freight and parcel handling ended on 1 September 1972, leaving the station unattended. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 it passed to the East Japan Railway Company (JR East). When the Atsumi-Iragawa section was double-tracked in 1970, the alignment was shifted slightly inland and the rebuilt right-of-way uses the new Iragawa Tunnel.
