Imamiyaebisu Station was opened on 5 October 1907 as Ebisu Station by Nankai Railway, the predecessor of Nankai Electric Railway, and was renamed Imamiyaebisu on 1 July 1915. The line through the station was elevated between 1937 and 1938, integrating it into the four-track shared corridor between Namba and Kishinosatotamade. In June 1944 wartime consolidation transferred the station to Kintetsu, before the formation of the modern Nankai Electric Railway returned it on 1 June 1947. Although on paper the station belongs to the Nankai Main Line, only Kōya Line local trains have actually stopped here since 23 November 1970.

Although the station is named for the Imamiya-Ebisu Shrine, which draws crowds each January for the Tōka Ebisu festival, only Kōya Line locals actually stop here—Main Line trains all pass through without stopping.
