Iioka Station opened on 1 June 1897 as a stop on the Sōbu Railway, which ran east from the Tokyo area towards Chōshi. The railway was nationalised in 1907 and absorbed into JR East at the breakup of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. The station lies 106.3 km from the line's western terminus at Tokyo, in the city of Asahi, Chiba Prefecture. It consists of two opposed side platforms linked by a footbridge, and is staffed. In addition to the all-stations Sōbu Main Line services, the Shiosai limited-express trains running between Tokyo and Chōshi also call at Iioka.

Despite the small commuter ridership of just a few hundred daily boardings, Iioka is one of the few intermediate stops on the eastern Sōbu Main Line where the Shiosai limited-express trains call.
