• San'in Main Line: Todakohama ⇄ Esaki

Iinoura Station opened on 19 June 1927 as a terminus of the Japan Government Railways San'in Main Line when the route was extended from Todakohama Station, in present-day Masuda, Shimane Prefecture. On 25 March 1928 the line was extended onward to Susa Station, making Iinoura a through-station. Freight handling was discontinued on 1 October 1962, parcel service ended and the station became unstaffed on 21 August 1979 (after a period of contracted operation from June 1968). With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR West. The station was out of service from 28 July to 9 November 2013 following torrential-rain damage to the line, and the original wooden station building has since been demolished.

Iinoura is the westernmost station in Shimane Prefecture, and stood in for the fictional "Kazemachi Station" in the 2005 Japanese film Tabi no Okurimono: 0:00-hatsu.
