Higashi Nagoyakō Station opened on 15 January 1924 as Nishi-Rokugō Station on the Aichi Electric Railway, taking its present name on 30 January 1932. The station was damaged in the 1944 Tōnankai earthquake and again in the air raid of 17 May 1945. Freight operations were sub-contracted to Nippon Express and the station de-staffed on 16 December 1985, and on 25 November 1990 the operating distance was shortened by 0.4 km when the kilometre datum was moved from the former freight yard to the present passenger platform. Tranpass arrived on 15 January 2005, supplanted by manaca in February 2011, and four-car trains began running on 3 October 2009.

The line beyond the platform is still used for outbound shipments of newly built rolling stock from the nearby Nippon Sharyō plant, making this nominally passenger-only terminus also one of Meitetsu's rare car-export sidings.
