History

Higashi-Mizumaki Station opened on 13 March 1988 as an infill station added by the newly formed JR Kyushu along an existing stretch of the Chikuhō Main Line in Mizumaki, Fukuoka Prefecture, 13.5 km from the Wakamatsu terminus. The station building sits on a wedge of land between the line's two diverging tracks and contains only a waiting room and ticket vending machines. On 4 March 2017 Higashi-Mizumaki was incorporated into JR Kyushu's Smart Support Station programme; it has no on-site staff, but passengers using the ticket gates or vending machines can speak with attendants at the central support centre at Nakama via intercom.
